Project Map and Summary
The project is located in south western Cobb County, and will bring sewer flows from the Sweetwater interceptor to the South Cobb Water Reclamation Facility. Along the way, it will collect flows from the Silver Creek, Carroll Creek, I-20, and South Cobb areas. At the south east end of the project, a small tunnel will collect flows from the Nickajack basin.

The main TBM tunnel will replace the existing Sweetwater Creek Interceptor and eliminate the Sweetwater Creek Pump Station. The tunnel will be approximately 29,000 feet in length with an excavated diameter of twenty-seven feet and a finished diameter of twenty-four feet in the areas that are concrete lined (expected to be approximately 70%). A 130 MGD influent lift station located at the South Cobb Water Reclamation facility will be constructed as part of this project. The Nickajack Pump Station will be decommissioned and approximately 3,200 feet of finished six foot diameter deep tunnel will connect to the South Cobb Tunnel construction shaft and then to the new pump station. The project additionally includes various inlet structures, drop and vent shafts, chamber structures, construction shafts, an electrical building, and odor control facilities.
The project was bid in December of 2007 and attracted 3 bids. A low bid of $305 million was tendered by J. F. Shea/Traylor Brothers JV. Notice to Proceed was July 14, 2008.
The project has a 72 month construction schedule.
