Blasting Notices
The Contractor began excavation for the Sweetwater Connector Tunnel the afternoon of 01-28-10. The Contractor anticipates blasting Sweetwater two times a day on weekdays going forward.
The Contractor is excavating for the Sweetwater Connector tunnel, which will connect the Sweetwater construction shaft with the Sweetwater Intake structure, which will be located behind the old BP station on the corner of Maxham and Old Alabama. This tunnel is approximately 9 feet wide, and about 12 feet tall.
Blasting of this smaller diameter tunnel to connect the Sweetwater construction shaft to the Sweetwater Intake is scheduled to complete middle of August, 2010.
The Contractor begin excavation for the I-20 Connector Tunnel May 21th, 2010. The Contractor anticipates blasting up to several times a day on weekdays and possibly Saturdays going forward.
The Contractor is excavating the I-20 Connector tunnel, which will connect the I-20 Intake Structure with the TBM tunnel. This tunnel will be driven about 300 feet below the I-20 roadway and connect with a surface structure east of the Walmart at Thornton Road. This tunnel is approximately 10 feet wide, and about 10 feet tall. These existing surface flows will be taken down to the tunnel level in a shaft lined with ductile iron pipe.
The main blasting of the I-20 tunnel is scheduled to complete the end of October, 2010.
The Contractor begin excavation for the Silver Creek Connector Tunnel June 9th, 2010. This tunnel will be driven about 230 feet below Silver Creek and connect with a surface structure east of Pritchett Industrial Blvd. This tunnel is approximately 12 feet wide, and about 12 feet tall, and about 100 feet long. These existing surface flows will be taken down to the tunnel level in a shaft lined with ductile iron pipe. The Contractor anticipates blasting up to several times a day on weekdays going forward, and the main blasting work at Silver Creek was complete August 3, 2010. Due to Access issues at the tunnel interface, an additional small blast will be necessary before the tunnel can be concrete lined.
The Contractor began blasting for the Carroll Creek connector tunnel August 2, 2010. This tunnel will be driven about 220 feet below Carroll Creek and connect with a surface structure east of the Car Max on Thornton Road. This tunnel is approximately 13 feet wide, and about 14 feet tall, and about 70 feet long. These existing surface flows will be taken down to the tunnel level in a shaft lined with ductile iron pipe. The Contractor anticipates blasting up to several times a day on weekdays going forward, and thinks the main blasting work at Carroll Creek will be complete mid August, 2010. Due to Access issues at the tunnel interface, an additional small blast will be necessary before the tunnel can be concrete lined.
